Burgravine Irmgard von Gustavus is the wife of Governor Hellwig Johann von Gustavus, governor of Niesse, and mother of Legatus Reiswitz Georg von Gustavus.
Irmgard’s late father, Ulrich the Horseman, was nicknamed such for his skill at managing livestock. Ulrich leveraged this skill into the establishment of caravan routes from Hesse into Somacia, Sayada, and Munchkein, leading to his status as a very successful merchant.
By the time Irmgard was old enough to marry, Ulrich had earned enough money to present a handsome dowry to her future father-in-law, Johann von Gustavus, thus allowing Irmgard the opportunity to marry into comfort by wedding Hellwig. Although the Gustavus family was a very minor noble one in the scope of Hessen privilege, Johann demanded a very high price. When Ulrich couldn’t pay the full amount agreed upon, Johann promptly seized Ulrich’s business, effectively driving all of Irmgard’s family into serfdom.
Irmgard was against the marriage from the beginning, but at the age of fourteen, she was too young to do anything about it. In time, Irmgard bore Hellwig two children. The first died during birth; the second, Reiswitz, arrived relatively late in the marriage.
While Hellwig and Reiswitz live in Enchantment’s Guard, Irmgard spends her days at the family home in the country.
