Kindling

A kindling is a chaotic fire creature who delights and receives immense pleasure and joy in setting objects ablaze. They are born to burn—and burn they do—hot and volatile. Kindlings come into the world starving and are essentially cursed with unquenchable hunger. Only by perpetually feeding on heat and flame, taking nourishment from that which is ablaze, do they find minor relief from the aching pangs of starvation.

Kindlings explode to life in lava eggs ejected violently from an erupting volcano that can be thrown randomly many miles. Like cannon ball from heaven, they impact the ground with the velocity of a bomb, inflicting 12d6 thunderous damage to anything it hits, (the audible thunder crack can be heard for miles. Any creature within the 30-foot radius blast zone must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away and knocked prone). The force of the impact cracks the egg’s igneous shell, freeing and giving life to the kindling inside. Kindlings as previously explained are born starving, and as such, they immediately look to feed which they do by attacking and setting anything within line of sight on fire.

Kindlings typically range in size from 1 to 3 feet in length and appear like ruddy black rodents of unusual size and likewise exhibit aggressive rat-like behavior, scurrying about frantically causing mischief and mayhem. They have black razor-sharp igneous exoskeleton over a molten burning endoskeleton. They have an incredible acute sense of sight and will immediately attack anything in line of sight.

Kindlings, like meteorites, have short explosive lives and live no longer than a couple of days. And just as quickly as they are born they burn out.

Keen Sight. The kindling has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Illumination. The kindling sheds flickering fiery light in a 10-foot radius.

Multiattack. The kindling makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft, one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2 piercing damage)

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (2d4 + 2 slashing damage)

Fire Aura. Anyone within 5 feet of Kindling must make a Constitution save once every round (DC 11) or take 1d4 points of fire damage.

Fire Starter. Flammable objects (environment and/or objects worn by a person), within 5 feet of Kindling smolder from intense heat. Smoldering objects must make a Fortitude save once every round (DC 10, +1 for each previous check) or burst into bright energetic flames. Unattended objects on fire take 1d6 fire damage (including the person wearing them), each round until consumed or someone puts out the fire.

Fire Ending. When a kindling dies, it explodes spraying each creature within 10 feet with igneous shrapnel and fire. Those caught in the blast must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 3d6 bludgeoning and fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
